How to password protect a directory in cPanel?

This is done using the Directory Privacy feature in cPanel.

When you add password protection to a directory, you provide a name for the directory that will appear in users' web browsers when they are prompted for a username and password. Then you create users and passwords to specify who can access the directory.

To add password protection to a directory, follow these steps:
  1. In the FILES section of the cPanel home screen, click Directory Privacy.
  2. Click the name of the directory to protect.
  3. In the "Security Settings" section, select the Password protect this directory check box.
  4. In the Enter a name for the protected directory text box, type a name for the protected directory.
  5. Click Save.
  6. In the "Create User" section, type a username in the Username text box.
  7. In the New Password text box, type the user's password.
  8. Retype the user's password In the Confirm Password text box.
  9. Click Save.
