How to use the Index Manager in cPanel?



The Index Manager in cPanel enables you to specify how directories on your web site are displayed. By default, if an index file is not there in a directory, the directory's contents are listed infront of the user at his browser. This is not recommended for security reasons.
You can select between a default style, no indexes, or two types of indexing. If you do not wish for people to be able to see the files in your directory, choose No Indexing.

To protect a directory by setting its indexing settings, please follow these instructions:

  1. In the Advanced section of the cPanel home screen, click Index Manager.
  2. Click the directory name that you want to modify.
  3. Click the indexing option that you want to set for the directory.
  4. Click Save.
You can also set Error Pages to show up to visitors of incorrect URLs or password protected directories. For more details, please check this section:
