Hypertext

Originally, any textual information on a computer containing jumps to other information. The hypertext jumps are called hyperlinks.

In World Wide Web pages, hypertext is the primary way to navigate between pages and among Websites. Hypertext on World Wide Web pages has been expanded to include hyperlinks from text and hyperlinks from image maps.

Generally, any text that contains links to other documents - words or phrases in the document that can be chosen by a reader and which cause another document to be retrieved and displayed.
